I have two parakeets and my female parakeet just laid an egg and I am so happy. What should and shouldn't I do? What do I supply them with? The egg is in a nest box and in the concave bottom. How many eggs will the female lay? How long will it be before the next egg? Please Answer!

  1. Just don't datube them give them a nest so ythey can it on them

  2. Okay, well first off if the other one isnt a male (though I am assumeing it is) obviously the egg wont hatch. If it IS a male I will tell you what my friends did with there Finches (who had a happy family of 5 after the aggs hatched ^^) . They scrambled one *chicken* egg once a day or every other day and put it at the bottom of the cage and they LOVED it...it gives them the nutrition they need and can later feed to the young. Oh, and there birds accidently cracked like 10 eggs when they sat on them before any of them hatched lol so I wouldn't get to exited yet cause you might have a cracked egg in the nest right know o.O

  3. If you have bacon, you can make a little bacon and eggs.

  4. the female budgie can lay up to 6 or 4 ,a couple of mins til the next egg or so but don't touch the eggs leave them alone .

after 6 weeks the baby budgie will get all it's feather and still is a baby .........but the egg will hatch when it's ready

  5. Their nutritious needs can all be found in a chicken egg.  I read about your vegetarian diet, however, I think that you might have to break it.  Ask a friend for a chicken egg if you don't want to buy them.

Because producing eggs is so hard and so difficult, the female must be provided with an adequate calcium resource, since calcium is what makes up the eggshell.  You can purchase vitamin drops for birds, and calcium blocks as well, which will add to the birds' diet.

As for the chicken egg, what the previous poster said is right.  Scramble the chicken egg and give it in small quantities in an extra food and water cup for the birds.  Incubating takes alot of energy; they need the vitamins contained in chicken eggs.  Of course, chicken (the poultry) itself would be better because of the protein content, but chicken eggs also have some protein.  And no, you cannot use egg biscuits; the keets would not be able to digest it.

What you should do is, once the female lays an egg, remove it and use a small Sharpie marker.  Label it by the date it was laid; this will be alot of use for your records later on, when you want to sell the birds.

Make sure that the nest box has sawdust at the bottom of it.

The female may lay up to 4-7 eggs.  Label each of these. It can take 24-48 hours for the next egg.

After the chicks have hatched, let the parents care for them.

    Best of luck,

    Phoenix
