ive had two parakeets for about a year now female and male and the female has been acting odd she has been sitting on her food bowl. and she wont fly around anymore. but when i picked her up there were not any eggs sometimes she will hopp around to get water and food and stuff but now the male is just standing there with her does that mean she is getting ready to lay eggs and what should i do to make her more comfortable?

  1. Parakeets don't get pregnant, they lay eggs that are fertilized by the males. You can give her supplies like tissue and tissue paper to assist her in building a nest, to make her more comfortable...

  2. Actually you might want to check with a bird specialist for this one. If the female was ready to lay eggs (not pregnant)... she would be looking for a nesting area. Sounds like both birds are not doing well. Try putting in a nesting box or buy her what is called a "Happy Hut" which makes a secure place for her and she feels safe. Otherwise, take them both to a bird vet and have them checked out. This doesn't sound normal to me.

  3. If she is sitting in her bowl and you are able to pick her up, sounds to me like she is sick. Because unless she hand tamed a normal wild parakeet like that would not allow you to touch her.

  4. can we outlaw this so-called word, "preggers"?

i'm just shaking my head over this question.

  5. provide her with a nest box and some nesting materials..if shes gonna lay eggs then she and the male will take it from there
