Question:

My parakeets are mating BUT>>>

They always mate on the swing, they don't get on the perch. And everytime they try on the swing(which is at the very top of the cage) they fall all the way to the bottom, then they just climb back up to the top and get back on the swing and try again ... it's quite amusing ... but should I take the swing out so they don't get hurt?

  1. parakeets are very athelitc and are very good and climbing and falling if your looking to breed them i would suggest you replace the swing with a perch thats higher up but if your just havingg them as pets leave the swing they should be fine and it gives them something to do soo there not so bordd all time

  2. well normaly birds likes to be in high places, i think they'll be alright with the swing but if ur afriad they might get hurt then i suggest replaceing it with a perch

  3. Only take the swing out if you are serious about breeding and raising the babies when they hatch, and are also serious about placing them in a very "bird friendly home" aka crazy bird lady/man (which I am proud to be labeled crazy bird lady myself) you will fall in love with every baby you raise and soon realize it is not so easy to place a baby bird in a perfect home. I advertise this on my web site by saying on my about me page at the bottom "I reserve the right to refuse a sale if I feel it is in the best interest of the bird." Even if you do not take out the swing they can most definitely lay fertilized eggs! I have seen first time pairs get it wrong by watching and seeing with my own eyes that they failed to complete and still end up with 5 fertile eggs that hatch 5 perfect beautiful babies!!! Please contact me through the web site listed under source if you really would like more info about breeding!
