I love to sing & act. I have even done plays. I try showing my parents how good I am and they know I have dream of becoming an actress some day. But unfortunately my parents don't understand and I really young, meaning I am a Middle School student. I know I need my parents permission to start acting, but they won't give me permission at such a young age. Nobody in my family encourages my dream. My parents tell me how I will end up having premaritial s*x and indulge in other immoralities. I don't understand...I'm their daughter they should understand that I won't do any of these. What am I to do? I had offers before, which my parents also turned down. Please help I need advice. What can I do to pursue my dreams?

  1. You sound like you're motivated, but you must also realise where your parents are coming from. Being an actress is not the most secure job, and they may be worried about your future. As you say, they may also be worried that pursuing this profession will lead you down the wrong path, probably seeing actresses like Lindsay Lohan and stuff in and out of rehab and clubs.

My suggestion is, participate in as many school-based drama things as possible. Classes, plays, musicals, etc. Try and do after school activities too. Not only will this improve your acting, it'll show your parents how enthusiastic you are about it. Once you hit high school (or even sooner if you can't wait till then), perhaps work out a deal with them where you promise to go to school and get certain grades if you're able to pursue singing and acting outside of school. Your parents sound reasonable, so they may understand your enthusiasm and let you do it. In terms of the s*x/morality thing, assure them that their upbringing has given you all your morals and nothing can undo that.

Good luck with pursuing your dream!

  2. It's your dream and go for it! Tell them that they no you are good, a good girl who wasn't raised by stupid parents and you aren't like the other  girls. Tell them they will be with you the full way so its not like you aren't going to be supervised because along with being a actress up until the age of 18 your parents need to be with you and approve of the things going on with your acting coach, on sets, and with directors. Outside of the set, parents aren't always going to be with you but that's where the good parenting comes in that they gave you.

  3. Since they won't help right now, the best you can do is make sure you are taking drama and theather art classes in school. If your community has a small theather, looking into joining it. Just because they won't drive you to Hollywood and put you in commericals etc, you still can puersue your dream. It may not be right now, it may be after you have finished your education, but it still can be done.
