  1. You have to be born on American soil to be American unless you were born on a military base.

  2. Yes

  3. yes. a lot of jobs require men and women to work abroad, and the children born are citizens. But, they may also claim dual citizenship since they are born in a country that may accept them as citizens.

  4. Yes.  I wasn't born in the US either but on US territory in a military hospital.  If both your parents are citizens, you are too.

  5. You are getting some bad advice. You do not have to become naturalized, you are automatically a citizen if both your parents are citizens regardless of where you were born.

    -------------------

THIS CASE IS DIFFERENT THAN YOUR CASE

If you are born on United States soil, you are a citizen regardless of the status of your parents (unless they are diplomats). United States soil could include things like the hospital in Panama Canal Zone when it was controlled by the United States.

  6. Yes. No matter where on the planet you are born, if you are born of American citizens, you are by birth right an American citizen.

Of course, if you are born in Turkey, you are automatically registered as a dual-citizen of the United States and Turkey, and if you are a male the Turkish government can legally draft you into their army at age 18 and extradite you to Turkey from wherever in the world you may be. Moral of the story being, if you have a son, don't have him in Turkey.

  7. Yes you are, but to obtain any benefits from being a US citizen, you should get some documents which proove that you are a citizen like a US passport, social security number etc.

  8. You have to be born here. You can only be a naturalize citizen

  9. You have to choose when you are 18, and are treated as a citizen of both countries until you choose.

  10. It's quite possible. It will depend on whether either of your parents ever lived in the U.S. One requirement that would have to be met would be that one of your parents resided in the U.S. before you were born.

If one or both of your parents resided in the U.S. before you were born, you're a U.S. citizen (at birth).

I'm presuming you were born after 1952. If not, ask your question again with your birth date included.

There is no requirement that you someday have to choose between U.S. citizenship and some other. You are a U.S. citizen for life.

  11. yes, as long as both of your parents were born in america you are a citizen. It's the "law of blood" or Jus sanguinis.

  12. If your parents were American Citizens when you were born then you are an American Citizen. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either misinformed on the federal law or is lying to you. That could include government employees. You may also hold citizenship in the country you were born in but I would not make a big issue of that. The US government frowns on dual citizenship cases.
