i'm a soph right now, and my parents are not allowing me to run this summer and join the team for my junior year! this is all due to school. they are largely concerned with my SAT and school performances. they blame xc and track for making me tired after practices and not have the energy to study!

what should I tell them that they will say yes? thanks!

  1. Tell them if they do not let you do a sport that you will become a drug addict instead.

  2. Parents love shows of responsibility. So take action and make a plan to your parents. Show them how much you care about track and how you are willing to make sacrifices in your free time so that you can both study and run.

Make an agreement with them, something like you need at least all B's to stay on track, and if you get 1 C on a test then you have to quit.

Making a plan and sticking to an agreement will show your parents not only how important running is to you, but also that you are ready and responsible enough to keep your grades up.

  3. Say this:

" I am going to "run" away if you don't let me "run" this summer"!

  4. umm tell them if they let you run then you promise not to run. and theyll get confused and let you run. and then dont do your hw. drop out of school, and run from the popos. great practice.

  5. try harder in school so you can get good grades and get a decent job for the rest of your life. or if your like the best runner in your whole region get better grades so your parents let you run and you can get a college scholarship and get run for the olympics someday.

  6. student athletes develop stronger work ethics.  They learn time management skills useful in life.

  7. explain to them that this is what you enjoy.

Let them know that you will only rebel further if they take this away from you...if they bar you from running (which is what you want to do) then why would you do what they want you to?  If they take running away from you, you aren't going to take them seriously.  You have to make them feel like you understand their point of view too tho.  Say "yeah I understand what you are doing is in my best interest, but...." then put your case forward.

Tell them that if they let you continue running, it will give you a chance to prove that:

    1. You are responsible

    2. You can make responsible decisions.

BUT ~ you have to proove it! you have no idea how much more trust your parents will put in you if you are able to keep your grades up + continue running.

  8. I had the same exact problem. My mom says that I spend too much time in xc and track. However, tell them that studies actually show that the brain works better when people exercise. And come on, it's exercise, your parents don't want you to get fat and lazy right? Next year, my junior year, will be filled with AP classes and SATs and PSAT and ACTs. Make an agreement with your parents about your grades, and that if you do well in xc, you can actually get a scholarship from colleges and save your parents hundreds of dollars. and dont' spend TOO much time w/ xc misc activities such as pasta parties, or "bonding" stuff
