My parents are on holiday and I thought I would surprise them..

Question

by painting the walls, unfortunately the paint got all over the stairs (I covered them?!) and its white water based paint. Its everywhere and I am soooooo scared, the carpet look terrible. How do I get it out?

Firstly what a lovely thing to do for your parents, a nice surprise like that, wish I could get surprises like that.

As for the paint, there is not much I can suggest other than just trying to wash it out with water, if it happened to me, I would probably be scared too.  

Other than that, the carpet might have to be replaced, which is an expense that you probably dont need at the min.  But I think your parents will be delighted at seeing that you were doing something special for them.  Sorry I couldnt be more help to you, and I hope that everything works out for you.

Call a carpet cleaning pro - before you do anything else to the carpet.  You might actually be setting the paint into the carpet further.

That said, I think that this may be tough to fix.  Good luck, and as a parent, I would greatly appreciate your efforts to paint and to surprise me.

If it was latex or acrylic and it is still wet try a wet vac and soap & water. If it has only dried for a little while try that anyway and also try some denatured alcohol. You may need to replace it though if it has been dry for a while.

Look, i am a painter and i will try to save your life.Of course this happenned to me on many occasions even on new carpets.If the paint drips on the carpet leave it, let it dry, DO NOT TOUCH IT.If it's not a hugh spill just a drop then use  a metal comb to get it as much as you can.After that take sandpaper and sand it out. It takes a lot of patience but it works.This is in case the drips are small,say size of a quarter.If it's a huge spill then you will have to replace the carpet.There is also stuff on the market called Mr.goo ( or something like that).Oh, make sure when you use sandpaper that you rub it in different directions. Basically what you are doing is scraping the paint of the carpet fibers.Good luck and a lot of patience.
