My parents are selling their pool table... How to measure it?

How do you measure it for the advertising? Like diagnal or length and width? or hight I don't get it. Thanks in advance...

While it's true that the length of the playing surface will be twice the width, the dimensions don't come out exactly to those specified above.  If you look at the reference below, you'll see the playing surface areas versus the conventional table size.   You can do the math and see they don't come out exact, plus there are two different sizes of "4x8 foot" tables.

    But yes, you measure the playing surface from cushion nose to cushion nose and then you can find the common name for the table size from the ref.

  3. You always measure the playing surface of a pool table, from the noses of the cushions.  The length of the playing surface will always be twice that of the width.  Common measurements are 3 1/2' X 7', 4' X 8', and 4 1/2' X 9'.  M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

    P.S. Yes, he's correct.  It doesn't always come out exactly to these measurements and there is something called an oversize 8-footer.  Whatever you do measure, it will likely be very close to one of the dimensions listed above, so I would recommend listing it as such.  Most people are familiar with these dimensions and it will cause less confusion than listing the exact dimensions to the inch.
