I thought that at last one parent had to have blue eyes for their child to have blue eyes and even then it was rare. So how did I get blue eyes?

  1. There dominant gene is obviously brown, but they both have the recessive gene of blue eyes.

there was only 1/4 of a chance you would be blue eyed and 3/4 quarters of a chance you would be brown

your parents genes are Bb Bb then.

Its even possible for you to have a brown eyed child, even if you and your partner have blue eyes. You could be carrying a brown eyed gene.

  2. Check your grandparents, at least one of them would have blue eyes.

Other people ahead of me, already mention that blue is a recessive trait, hence, there's a chance you cannot see them in your parents.

  3. Genetics is the reason. The gene for blue eyes is recessive while brown is dominant.

Let us assume that B-brown eye gene, b-blue eye gene

    So,

    Bb x Bb

    this can produce

    BB (pure brown)

2 Bb (brown, with recessive blue gene

    bb (blue)

Your parents have the recessive gene for blue eyes and the dominant gene for brown eyes, however the brown is dominant over blue so that trait is seen. Both the recessive gene for blue eyes from your parents were passed down to you. Since blue eyes only shows when both genes are recessive, your eyes are blue means that you inherited both recessive gene for the blue eye color..

  5. This is rough genetics:

Your mother is brown-blue, and the eyes are brown.

Your father is brown-blue, and the eyes are brown.

    You could have been:

    brown-brown,

    brown-blue,

    blue-brown,

    blue-blue.

    You are blue-blue.
