My parents think its wrong that my bf invited me to a family baptism?

I'm not sure why but today i asked my parents if I can go this event with my bf and his family..they said yes but they were also telling that this is wrong why should I have to go to this and I mean I was invited! c'mon of course I wanna go! And it has nothing to do with the religion of the baptism because we are both the same religion. They kept lecturing me that me going to get to know my bf's family is so wrong and he can't just invite me. They sounded so angry like I had just committed a crime or something. Are they right to act like this?

I'm 17 by the way and in college, my bf is 18

Sounds like your parents are having a hard time letting go. I don't blame them. I have a way too independent 11 year old. It has got to be sad for them, but they also need to let you live your life too. It's tough. I feel both sides of the problem. Good luck.

What? Why would It be wrong? Some people act weird about religion but I don't think it's a big deal. Just about everyone at my nephew's baptism brought their boyfriends/girlfriends.
