  1. Not all parents qualified for the rebate.  Besides, if you were a parent and had a teenager who wanted your money would you tell them?  lol

You are old enough to work and get a job for your expenses.

  2. You would seriously have to ask your parents to do that; they won't give secure information like that to a 16-year-old. If they didn't get any, more than likely, they probably didn't get any . . .

  3. You're probably talking about the government's special one-time-only Economic Stimulus payment that went out this year.

The maximum amount of this payment was $600 per person, or $1200 for a married couple who filed a joint return. Some taxpayers received less than the maximum, and some taxpayers were not qualified to receive the payment at all. It is entirely possible that your parents are telling you the truth.

If you are asking whether the government would have sent you a check, that would depend on whether you were employed last year, and how much you earned. Then again, if your parents claimed you as a dependent on THEIR tax return, you are not eligible to receive the stimulus payment, even if you did work.

If you're asking the entirely different question of whether your parents received an income tax refund this year - there is no way to answer that question.

Taxpayers receive a tax refund when their tax return shows that they paid more money in taxes during the year than they actually owed. Whatever amount you overpaid is returned to you, once you demonstrate to the IRS that a refund is due. I can't tell you if your parents received a refund this year - some people do and some people don't. You can receive a refund three years in a row, and then not qualify for another 20 years - it all depends on your income and financial circumstances, and the frequent changes to government tax laws.

So - at MOST your parents may have received a $1200 stimulus payment check from the government this year. That's not your money - they received it because they were taxpayers. It's unlikely that YOU would have received a possible $600 payment, because the parents of most 16 year olds claim their children as dependents on their tax returns. If your parents did claim you, you were not eligible for a stimulus payment.

Finally - if the government HAD issued a stimulus check to you, it would have come in your name, and you would have had to endorse the check before your parents would have been able to cash it.

So there you go - it's pretty unlikely that your parents are cheating  you.
