  1. ive never seen a tornado and i say stay away from oklamhoma if possible

  2. Why Tulsa?

  3. Take a shovel and dig a hole then hide in it. In fact have the whole house built below ground...

  4. I've lived in 3 towns where tornados (an F-2, F-3, and F-4 or 5) came close.  I've never been "through" a tornado myself.

Remember that, as storms go, tornados are extremely powerful, but almost always extremely localized.  One house can be destroyed while the neighbor's house gets almost no damage.  So the odds that you'll actually be injured by a tornado, compared to, say, an earthquake or a hurricane, are relatively low.  I think there's probably a greater chance that you'll get swept away by a flood or injured by being out in a thunderstorm with debris than actually injured by a tornado.

Second, I would guess that the meteorologists in Tulsa are extremely skilled and plenty of warning is almost always provided for tornados.  You can always err on the side of caution and go to your basement or the lowest level in your house to take shelter if one comes.

  5. If you watch Tulsa TV in the spring and summer, you won't miss a single storm of any magnitude because they cover them all, hour after hour after hour.  You may miss a lot of your favorite TV shows, but you'll know if it is raining anywhere within 100 miles of Tulsa.  When I visit there, I am fascinated by two things about this. 1)  People sit there and watch this stuff.  2)  I watch this stuff.  It kind of sucks you in.

Bottom line is that anyone with a TV will know if a tornado comes within 100 miles of them.  And the tornados are pretty localized.  One house can get hit, and another across the street can be fine.  Pretty good odds that you'll get hit by a bus before you get hit by a tornado, even in Tulsa.  Boredom is a bigger risk.  You might be so bored that you watch the storm coverage on TV, hour after hour after hour.

  6. Relax.  I've lived in Oklahoma my entire life (i'm 32) and I've never seen one Tornado.  I live about 45 from Tulsa.  Don't worry.  You'll be fine.
