Ok so whats up skaters this is really bugging me while i was skating with one of my freinds he hit a car with his griptape it rippped a little paint in it and put some dents in it. Now the neighbors talked to my parents and my parents say im not aloud to skate in the road. it got me pissed cause i just brought this new ramp set with my birthday money and i cant put it in my driveway because its to steep. the other thing that pisses me off is that im just starting to get good at skating i can kickflip every time, heelflip every now and then, doubleflip, tre flip, varialflip, ollie impossible, kickturn 1080. and more. my dad told me if i want to skate i have to go to the skatepark. but i live 45 minutes from the park and its 15 bucks to get in and my parents only bring me once every 2 weeks. the reason my parents are so serious about this is because my neighbor goes 'Hes always skating around as if he owns the streets' i dont own the streets but i believe i do own the street in front of my house. i mean cmon im not bothering them it was my freind who ruined his car not me. i mean skateboardings a sport shouldnt i be able to skate in the streets if bikers get to bike in the street or if runners run in the street i mean come on. i dont know why they wont let me i mean i am responsible if someone tells me to get out of a skatespot i will leave if my parents tell me to stop skating and come in for the night i will. what do i say to them to let me skate?

  1. your neighbors can just... **** off! i mean, if you can do this kick-flip your parents kinda have to show little bit of understanding and let you "express your talents" haha i mean i cant even stand on a skateboard

  2. thats dumb im ten i got in a lot of trouble for skateboarding but my parnets dident mame me stop and besides who are your nebiors to tell you you cant skate it weaird i mean i got the cops caled just becuse i tried picking a lock at a school anyway thats just ridclius you should like help your parnets a lot and maybe they might forget about it or just do what i do and beg well good luck trying to skate agian

  3. I think the main thing your parents are looking for in this is responsibility. Being a parent and a skater myself, I can understand both sides of the coin. First of all, your friend is lucky to not have had to pay for the damages he did, many times when I was younger i had no regard for others things and tore a lot of stuff up skating. It will inevitably happen, but make sure and take responsibility for it if it does. You might express to your parents how much you enjoy skating, and that you feel without doing it on a daily basis, you will fall out of practice. You might get proactive in the local skating scene. I would never pay $15 to get into a park, despite how good it is. Locally here, we pushed the city to build a skatepark that was free to everyone, citing that it would help diminish the local vandalism due to skaters. Bottom line being skaters tear up a lot of stuff when they grind, ride, or flip off of it, so we helped solve that problem for the city and in the meantime got a major skatepark built for free. You might mention to your parents that you would like to do something similar and write a letter to the city. This would prove you're responsible skater who just wants to skate, not purposely tear people's stuff up.  Personally I have no problem taking my daughter to the skatepark anytime, although it is not 45 minutes away and costs nothing to get in. You might find some more stuff to use for skating locally by asking other skaters. Remember that ANYTHING can be skated, it's just a matter of putting it all together. Ditches, abandoned pools, parking lots, shopping malls, but be a responsible skater when doing so and be considerate of the owners feelings towards your skating.

You might also express to your parents that this is a creative outlet for you. I know plenty of kids who never get into smoking because they love skating for long periods of time. You might mention that skating gets a bad rap, but is indeed a legitimate sport with real athletes. If they say something about it not being a skill, ask them to get on a board and do what you do everyday!
