  1. Sometimes old cats have an over active thyroid ( Hyperthyroidism ) The thyroid controlls metabolism, when it's over active, this is why your cat is so skinny, even if she's eating a lot.

If not treated, it will eventually lead to heart failure, and die.

I hope that is not what is wrong with her.

Please show your question and the answers to your parents.

    Best of luck.

  2. Your parents are responsible for the wellbeing of this cat... you are just a kid. You need to gently remind your parents that the law clearly states that you if have an animal, you're responsible for it. That includes vet care. Tell them they are breaking the law by denying this cat health-care. Ask them how they would feel if they hadn't been to the doctor in 8 years.

  3. Find a way to get the cat to the vet!!!!! I don't mean to scare you, we had a really fat cat who suddenly dropped a lot of weight, but still ate, so we didn't know what to make of it, and he died 3 months later.  He ate the night before, then the next night, couldn't even stand or see. He was the same age, and it can happen that fast.  Talk to your parents.  Good luck....

  4. somehow get the money to take her to the vet ;( you dont want anything bad to happen to her. I would just give the vet a call and describe what is going on. Maybe they can give you some verbal advice. If they say to bring her in maybe explain the situation to them about your parents... you never know. Good luck

  5. Your cat needs to see a vet and as the adults in your house your parents HAVE to give this cat the care it needs when it needs it.  Pets are a RESPONSIBILITY - not a right.

Does this cat go outside?  If so there's any number of diseases that she could have contracted.

Has she had fleas?  If so she could have ingested a flea and now has a tapeworm in her stomach that's growing and depriving her of nutrition.

Either way, there's no way to know what's going on with her without having a vet see her.

    "Dear (insert parents' names here):

This cat is your responsibility and your daughter is concerned that something may be wrong with her.  Instead of poo-poo'ing her away how about being proud that she's a responsible, caring pet owner?  Get this cat to a vet to be checked out.  That or I'll track your IP and forward your address to your local animal control and let them know you're not getting a sick cat looked at :)

    Sincerely,

    Concerned Citizen and Cat Lover"

FYI - catsrus - no need insulting this person and trying to make her feel bad.  This is obviously a teenager and teenagers can not take pets to vets - adults have to.  So get off your podium and back off.

  6. i know exactly how you feel, ive been around cats forever, ive had over 200 in my life and im 18.

    she could have worms.

maybe you could call up your vet and see how much it would cost.

you can msg me at anytime or email me

  7. Lets help you help your cat!

At that age it is possible that her teeth are hurting.  If shes eating dry cat food it may be painful. If so switch her to a wet soft type food. There are a lot of things that start to happen to cat when it reaches that age, and a vet is the only way to rule out the things that could end her life.

Unfortunately thousands of pets perish every year because of money issues.

    Best of luck to you,

PS. There are some Vets, who are understanding of money problems and they care more about saving animals than making money.

  8. I'm sorry to be blunt, but if you cannot properly provide for a pet, you should not have one.  I don't know how old you are, but can't you find a way to earn money to care for your pet?  Mow lawns, weed gardens, work part time, have a garage sale, whatever.

Having a pet has to be about more than "I cannot live without her" especially since she is getting absolutely NO proper care.  If you truly love her, you would try to put her needs a bit higher on the priority list than your satisfaction and find a way to provide vet care for her.

Check for low cost or no cost vet services, contact shelters or rescues.  I don't think blaming your parents for your choices is appropriate either.  I hate to see her suffering because you "love" her so much, she could be in incredible pain and you would not even know.

  9. Is she an outside cat?

You should talk to your parents about helping you. Maybe they'll match any money you can earn, or maybe they'll take you to a Humane Society clinic. Sounds like you're about 14, so I understand there's not much you can do. It's not your fault she can't get to a vet.

She might have worms if she's dropped weight and can't get back to the way she was, even though she eats. Keep her inside and see if she's vomiting her food up.

Call around to local vets and Humane Societies/ASPCAs to see how much it'd cost to get her checked out.

  10. Please don't feed your cat cheap dry food its high in carbs due to grains and doesn't give him the protein he needs.. Feeding better canned food with less carbs is cheaper in the long run too. He will be healthier and eat less JUNK and p**p less junk all that grain they put in cheap foods does kitties only harm!! Go to a mom and pop pet store, they pay less rent then the big pet stores and so they can be cheaper!! Get some great canned food in the larger cans, cheaper this way too, cover and refrigerate the unused food. AVOID HILLS Science diet brand and other high grain foods.. I will attach a website to review cat foods avoid high carbs.. Keep them under or about 10% carbs is best  go to DIET-RELATED DOCUMENTS area on this site review all the links to cat food info.. http://www.geocities.com/jmpeerson/index... GOOD LUCK!
