  1. I would renew my passport I just did mine and it took only one week. my trip is not until October and I heard that it was taking 6-8 weeks, so I was surprise to get mine without paying the express fee.

Depends on WHERE you are travelling.  Some countries require that, others do not.  Usually, if you are travelling to a country that requires a visa, they require 3 to 6 months more validity on your passport than your expected date of departure.  Countries that do not require a visa, usually do not.  If you are an American citizen, you can use the site below to look at the "Entry Requirements" for each country you plan to travel to.

  3. In most European countries it says:

    Passport must be valid for the time of the intended stay.

    However some countries require a 6 month validation.

    Why don't you add what nationality you have and to which country you plan to travel, so it would be easy to look up and provide to correct answer.
