I quit my job 3 weeks ago (It was a bad situation) and a week ago I picked up my last paycheck (last week) on Friday i received the BOUNCED check in the mail with a warning that my account is now negative. I've tried to contact my ex-employer, she won't answer her phone. I finally left a message saying if she didn't return my call i would be stopping by her home in an hour to discuss what we needed (we used to have a friendship, sadly the situation that caused me to quit killed it. Anyway... that's why i thought it was appropriate to go to her house.) to to do get this resolved. No reply. Went to her home, her husband made it seem like it was MY fault my account was negative... right... because it's my fault their business doesn't have money to pay their employees. Anyway... i let him know, and left my ex boss another message stating i would be in on Monday morning, as soon as she was at work. to pick up my money (i specified cash or a money order, i will not be accepting a check from these people). now that you know more of the story than you probably need too... Here's my question:

If she doesn't have the money tomorrow... what should i do?!?!

If she does have the money... should i still contact the labor department?

  1. You should also see if any of your local TV stations has a community help service.  If your check bounced, others who work or worked for her were affected as well.  You could do your community a good deed by exposing your employer's bad ways.  This may get you your money faster too!  You should also talk with your bank to see if they will waive the overdraft fees that you may have occurred because of that bad check.

  2. Contact local law enforcement for writing a bad check. Contact the labor department. And let the IRS know as she probably didn't pay them either. And let her know you're doing all this. Maybe she'll come through.

  3. yes contact the labor department and the district attorney i would contact the district attorney first they handle that kind of stuff pretty quick and will prosecute her for paying you with a bounced check

  4. ~~You need to contact your labor department tomorrow! She's in stiff trouble on this and there will be fines to boot. She has to pay you, so get your claim legally started. Any assets she has will go toward the employees payroll first. so sorry this has happened to you!~~

  5. Absolutely contact the Labor department.

  6. Yes, call the states attorney general, and the BBB. (better business bureau)
