Rabbits chewwed at the bootom of my young peach trees trunk. They almost ring barked the whole thing but luckily a small area was saved. They chewed deep enough for the tree to bleed sap out and the inner fibres to show. Will it recover? Does it grow back?

  1. As long as you have a continuous line of bark from bottom upward on the trunk it will survive and the bark will grow back.

To stop any further damage take some aluminium cooking foil and wrap it around the trunk from bottom to above rabbit height.

I used foil when all my trees where young to stop rabbit damage.

When I was told to use it I thought people where having me on but apparently they don't like the reflection at night from the moonlight (it's probably not nice to chew on either).

I never had to build another wire guard either.  Much cheaper and you don't have to wrap the whole tree just the bottom 2 feet of trunk.
