  1. large tubes or tunnels,

ladders suspended horizontally with toys/fruit/popcorn hanging from the rungs,

cat litter trays filled with bedding attached to the cage bars with large clips,

    extra shelves,

    thick ropes,

    swings,

    parrot toys,

    plastic balls,

    small boxes with treats inside,

    paper and paper bags

large wheels (not with open bars).

free and disposable toys are excellent such as stuffed paper bags and treat boxes.

  2. My wife and I have 3 rats and one of the things we got for them was cat toys also you can take 24 can coca-cola box for your rat just cut out one side and place it in the cage.

  3. Mine love hammocks, igloos, & the bigger guys like ferret toys. :P I tried wheels, but they just put bedding in them and then take a nap. 0.o Rats are very easily amused & very smart, so you can come up with all kinds of creative things. A couple of my cages even have bird toys in them. The best thing for a rat to have though is another rat. A playmate is always best, I've never had any do very well alone unless it was a mom with her babies. If you ever have anymore questions though, feel free to email me anytime. ^_^

  4. You need to get a cagemate, rats are social animals and unless you are literally around him 24/7, he needs a playmate. Make sure the rat is healthy and of the same gender, though!

Here are some things to put in the cage...

    -Hammocks

    -Tubes/Tunnels

    -Chew toys

    -Cat/Ferret/Bird Toys

    -Hidey houses

    -Anything they can climb

-A wheel at least 12 inches in diameter

    -A large water bottle

    -A large ceramic food dish

    -Carefresh bedding

-Harlan Teklad Labblocks OR Oxbow Regal Rat food

  5. you need the essentials like a food dish, a water bottle, and a hidey safe place. you can use hammocks, igloos, wooden houses, cardboard boxes, flower pots, etc. as a safe place for your rats to retreat. there should be a few so your rat has a selection. also rats need toys. i use squeaky mice, balls with bells in them, some tissue paper for them to tear up, cardboard for them to shred, dangling toys, and puzzles. cat toys and dog toys work well for rats. you can also give the rat a small rawhide to keep his teeth in check. tie grapes or carrots to the top of the cage with some ribbon. also make puzzles for them to figure out. my rats have figured out how to open milk cartons this way. have fun, and so will your rat.
