I have 2 rats, one is outgoing, and loves to come out of the cage. My other rat has always been a bit shy, but started to come out of her cage on her own about a week ago. but today i held her and she just didnt want to be held, she didnt want to come out of the cage, and she didnt want to be near me.

i've had them for about 2 weeks maybe 3. but idk why one likes me, but the other doesn't.

  1. She's probably just taking a bit longer to get used to things, she's in a completely new environemnt and right now she's probably still scared of you. Just give it time and she should open up. If she didn't like you, trust me she would have bitten you.

  2. She's probably in heat, give her 5 or 6 days and she'll be back to normal. Thats how my rats are.

  3. That's how my two boys were, Vash was adventurous and would leap at the chance to be out of their cage but Dante was very shy and reserved and it took him a long time to work up the nerve to come out and play. But as they got older and they learned to trust me more Dante became the cuddly couch potato rat and Vash never really reached that stage he was active his whole life until he was diagnosed with HLD.

I wouldn't worry about your shy girl, she just needs time.

  4. she could be sick keep an eye on her

  5. Im going throught the exact same thing. I rescued 2 rats from what I saw where not being taken care of. I got them off craigslist.com and when her son met me they were in a cage that looked like it hadnt been cleaned in a month. On top of that she had ceder bedding in it. When I went to use bleach on it because I was going to use it as a litter box I had to scrape the p**p off the bottem(poor things). Anyway they ended up haveing respitory infections and I had to take them to the vet. Aphradite trusts me more than Cocoa does. Cocoa wants nothing to do with me still and I have had them for like 2 months now. Aphradite will however come up to me, eat out of my hand and l**k my fingers. What Im trying to say is rats are funny animals. They sometimes will trust very easy and sometimes they wont. Like ppl they have there own quirks and personalities. I have even tried to trust train them and it doesnt work on Cocoa. You just have to give her time. Eventually she will learn to trust. She doesnt hate you, just doesnt completly trust you right now. Dont rush her. When she is ready she will trust but until then you might just have to admire from a distance.

  6. they can have personalities and tempermants just like people do. you are a huge giant to them, so don't be pushy and be nice and feed them snacks and they will slowly begin to trust you if you are not rough with them.

  7. Every time bring a treat with you.  Its gonna take time for your little rat to warm up.

  8. the little rat!

    Sorr,y couldn't resist. ITs a bipolar rat.

  9. They all take their own time to get adjusted to their surroundings and new owner. Just because one has decided you're OK, doesn't mean the other one dislikes you just because she's not on the same track.

Some rats are naturally independent, and others make instant friends with everyone.

Be patient and don't compare them to each other when it comes to friendliness. They all show it in their own ways. :)
