  1. see if he will leave it alone and if it gets bigger take him to the vet

  2. Sounds like it could be an abscessed tooth. I'd take him in to a small animal vet to be looked at.

  3. Rats have tons of diseases when they are born. It is pretty possible that it got an infection. If you are still worried about your rat i would take it to the vet. But rats don't live very long. I have had 3 in the last 2 years and they have all passed away.

I really hope your rat stays strong and healthy.

    I hope I helped too. :)

  4. rats are prone to alot of diseases and infections. you should take him to the vet immediately! if everything goes well, you should consider getting him a friend. rats are very sociable animals and although they have you as a friend, they also need company from another rat too. they get very depressed when they are alone. i hope he gets well

  5. If it's an abscess that keeps recurring, a vet can drain it and then prescribe antibiotics to clear up the infection. Topical antibiotics - like Neosporin - won't help much because the infection is internal.

If it's a solid lump, it's more likely a cyst or tumor than an abscess. A vet can tell you for sure. Sometimes things like that can be surgically removed, but it's an invasive procedure and often rats can live with tumors comfortably for a while.

If you don't know of a vet in your area that treats rats, call your local cat/dog vet and ask for a referral.
