my pet rats have been fighting over the last few days both females, they have lived together for nearly a year. one rat keeps biting and looks like she is trying to pull the other ones fur out? but sometimes the rat that gets bite isn't fighting back or trying to stop it and she is the bigger one out the 2.. their is no blood at the moment, will they get over this? are they in heat? any ideas how to break up a fight been using water but they seem to like it! thanks

  1. most likely they're in heat and just territorial. also make sure you're feed doesn't have peanuts in it, this tends to make the rats more aggressive for some reason. you should separate them to prevent any more injury.

  2. If there is no blood it's best that you don't separate them. They may be changing status- the old alpha becoming the beta.  Join the forums at http://www.fancy-rats.co.uk wherever you are. It's the most authoritative site on rats.

  3. Could you have a small cage for them? If that's the case then it might be Territorial reasons. If not, if born in the same litter they could just be play fighting. I have 3 male rats and they are doing the same. No blood or anything. If they are attacking each other and when the other isn't fighting back and is on its back, then this might be play fighting.
