  1. We have them in our planter that I made on our decks handrail..You can simply cut them back..and they will be okay... we deadhead ours often too... Keep in mind petunias need no nitrogen such as all purpose miracle grow for this will make them even leggier and by alot..any fertilizer with a high nitrogen content do not give at all.. we give ours a phospherous based fertilizer to make them bloom heavier and not too often... A petunia is a leggy plant/flower to begin with...stay away from nitrogen fertilizers


  2. Petunias are so tough, you can just hack at them and they will do fine!

  3. The petunias are extremely handsome plants with beautiful vivid colours. Unfortunately they have the habit you descibed in your Q. What I do is dead head them continually (daily) and snip off any shoot that has yellowing leaves or is tending to be leggy. This way your plants will look healthier for a much longer period .
