Question:

My piercings and joining the military?

I spoke with a recruiter to join a certain branch in the miltary. He asked me questions first to see if I pre-qualify. I have tattoos that are hidden which is okay, but I also have my tongue and navel pierced. I asked him if that was okay but he didn't answer my question. So, what I'd like to know (for those of you that are in the military) is that do I need to take my piercings off when I join?

  1. You would need to take both of those out to join.

  2. It's OK you just have to take them out to process at MEPS. Then anytime during duty hours you will be required to not have them in.

  3. Unfortunately, you need to remove them.  They are against the regulations for all branches. :-(  Once you are in you may be able to get them re-done and hide them - just don't get caught!!!

  4. No No No No No No No..... No peircings are allowed! :)

It is possible to hide the belly button ring during boot camp, but I wouldnt suggest it. Thats just another thing to have to worry about. It could get ripd out. :( Eeeeekkkkk

  5. It is against Army policy to wear unauthorized piercings.(that's redundant)

You are only allowed one set of small gemstone, gold, or silver studs.

I made the mistake of taking out my tongue ring once in formation.

    My platoon leader was pissed.

Techinically you aren't even supposed to wear them OFF duty, but nobody really cares.

I ran into my commander off duty at a club. Yep, he saw it.

Told me to make sure I took it out for formation.

    Good luck!

  6. You are not allowed to have any visible piercings --- the tongue would have to go --- but you could still enjoy the navel piercing on your own time, if it doesn't close up during boot camp

    good luck
