Everyone says that pigs are so smart and so easy to train and that they're actually clean, but this is not true for my pig. I have dogs I've trained, and pigs are supposed to be smarter than dogs but he just won't learn. And he's not clean, he poops right next to his food bowl and in his bed - which he then sleeps in, he steps in p**p then in his water bowl then drinks it... I think he doesn't like me because I won't let him in the house, but he's a pig! If I even leave the door open for a second he sneaks in, none of the other outside animals try to come in! Now he's started chasing the ducks and head butting the dog, which is not a big problem now but will be once he gets bigger... I even tried training him with the shock collar, but he wasn't even smart enough to make the connection that what he was doing was causing the shock. He is not smart at all and totally untrainable. What should I do?

  1. I'm sorry to say this, but it might be time to find your piggy a new home or a new lifestyle. If you have the room, I would suggest building a typical 'pig pen' instead of giving him a bowl and a bed in the backyard. Usually when people keep potbellied pigs as pets, its either in a pen where they can have a water trough, not a bowl, and a food trough, and a covered area with hay for a bed, as well as a large area of dirt for them to walk around and 'root,' or they are trained and kept inside as housepets to keep them from getting dirty. They are walked like dogs and given a small area to root to keep them from destroying houseplants and furniture. Good luck!
