Question:

My plants in my yard have a black substance all over their leaves can someone tell me what it is?

i have 2 plants in my yard that have black stuff on their leaves one is a confederate rose and the other is a variagated hibiscus. the black does not wash off. i don't want to loose my plants sentimental reasons. can some one please help?

  1. it sounds like "black spot" a disease that roses get...hibiscus are in the rose family.

    check out this website and talk to your local garden center...there are products that you can use to control it and methods of watering that can help prevent it.....

    I had  a rose bush that lived for 20 years with occasional outbreaks of it. In it's worst year, it lost all it's leaves but it did come back...


  2. Your plants have Aphids. They can be spotted on the under side of the leaf. Small white bugs. They excrete a black substance.They say it's not harmful but it really messes up my leaves. I've just bought Ortho Systemic Insect spray that was recommended for that purpose but have not tried it yet. I had already tried soapy water without luck
