My plasma tv electrical lead is too short.?

What is the neatest method to extend the cable without using a 3 pin socket extension. Is butt connection safe? I want to house the whole of the cable in a plastic conduit so I want the connection as small as poss.......

  1. If it's just a standard kettle lead, or other industry standard power cable, why not buy a replacement? You can get them quite cheaply from places like Dabs and Maplin.


  2. If you don't want to use an extension, you will have to cut the three pronged plug off, then wire a longer one on to it.  The wires each need to be sealed with heat shrink tubing, then a larger piece of heat shrink tubing should be used to seal the entire cord.

  3. Yes, butt splices will work fine (probably the blue ones) and they are rated for 300 volts , so you should be ok.  Just make sure you have the polarity right,  Make sure the final wiring is the same as the power cord or you could fry your TV in a bad way.

    Also, after crimping, pull on the wires at the splice a bit to make sure you have a good crimp.

  4. As far as problems go, this is right up there with "my wallet's to small to hold all my 50s"...

    Just solder the two cables together, if you don't want to use the plug.
