Question:

My pool is cloudy and don't know why!! Help?

I have a large above ground pool (25,000 + gallons) and this year it seems to be hard to open it. I have added algaecide, clorine, shock, and clarifier and it is still a cloudy teal color. I took a sample in and they say all my testing is within range, there is no metal or alloy, the PH is a tad high but not enough to effect the chlorine. I have vacuumed it numerous times, backwashed, everything and can't get it to clear up. Any suggestions?????

  1. We had the same problem and had to dump a whole bottle of clarifier in.... Apparently is has something to do with the water and where you get it. Our city water is really hard and actually full of arsenic (we don't drink it) but that helped good luck.

  2. Get a water clearifier, it causes the suspended particles to drop to the bottom and you can vacuum them up.

  3. smoke in the water?

  4. If this is a new phenomena, when is the last time you changed the sand in the filter?

That may not be the cause, but it may be failing to filter the water properly.

Are the jets moving the water fast enough?  I only mention this because some pools are under powered and the water isn't circulating sufficiently.  If you have never had a problem this may not be the case, unless the lines are clogged somewhat.

I've always wanted to see the water move.

  5. You might possibly need a new filter?

Also, not to scare you, but my the pool I work at had an algae problem two years ago. First the water turned teal, and then a noticeable layer of algae formed on the surface (very gross to swim in). Needless to say, I saw my manager put in anywhere from 3-8 drums of chemicals daily to get the pool back to normal. He had to do this for a few weeks.

I would consult your local pool dealer or an expert for help. You really should have a professional come look at it and make sure everything is all right. You don't want to be swimming in bacteria infested water and get sick.
