  1. Worn felt really affects speed, distance, and spin.

If it's your table, and you don't want to re-felt it, just practice by yourself often so you know what worn areas do what. This will give you a decided advantage when playing with friends.

However, it will not improve your game should you be asked to play on a maintained table, and may lead to bad habits.

After years of playing on particular bar tables, and learning their properties, I finally bought a decent table. And I found that I had to re-learn all the basic skills, since my bag-of-tricks wouldn't work with the new Olhausen.

Re-felting is not particularly cheap, and your cushions are probably shot, too. If I were you, I'd play the heck out of the table, put a quarter in a piggy bank for every game played, and splurge on new cushions and fabric. You'll be amazed at the difference.

  2. Certainly.  Worn cloth (not "felt" by the way) can form gullies that will throw your balls off line.  You may want to replace the cloth if it's this worn.  Get some top quality cloth like Simonis or Brunswick Centennial.  M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

  3. Whatever it does change it and use cloth felt is a misterm

  4. It can certainly affect the way the ball spins on that area.  I woudl suggest you get it changed if you're serious about your pool.....
