First off, I have a 13,000 gallon above ground pool. For the past week I've been trying to open my pool. It was completely green, full of algae. All my levels were down. So I brought up the alkalinity. When I tested and saw it was up I brought the PH up and added a copper based algaecide. In the evening I added 2 bags of shock. The next day the water was more like a cloudy greenish/blue.

In the evening I put a small amount of algaecide in and the next morning.. well.. half the pool was bubbly and on top of the bubbles there was a speckled brownish scum on it. It's still like this right now. I don't think I overdosed the pool with algaecide. During all of this I haven't been able to get the chlorine up. Normally you can smell chlorine when you're near a pool. I can't. I can only smell it when I'm close to the skimmer. I'm clueless on how to bring the chlorine up! (I use tablets)

I have no idea what to do. That bubbly water just doesn't want to go away!

  1. Are you keeping your filter on 24/7?   This is important when pool water is like that.  You should have used a clarifier when the water was cloudy instead of more algaecide.  You actually did not need algaecide at all..a good shock would have done the job.    Try to add another bag of a good shock and keep that filter running!   If it starts to clear and is cloudy, use that clarifier.
