I just have a 15ft round upground hardside pool with a sand filter & pump.

It was here when I moved in and I am just trying to maintain it.

I read the directions on every bottle I put in the pool and still can NOT get crystal clear water!

It was doing good this year so far and now I have an algae problem with just having the dingy green water.

I chlorinate w/ a sanitizer in it also..Algaefier when needed and I have a chlorine float. I shock about once a week also

Please SOMEONE help me....this is turning into a nightmare!!

  1. Why go through all the recurring problems of maintenance and one day, even a tragic incidence of a pet animal or a young child drowning in it? Just once, and you then decide to discard it, bit too late and a precious life is unnecessarily lost.

Life is already so stressed up, so unpredictable in many respects. It is better not to have an above ground small pool which doesnt offer real benefits for enjoyable workouts. Unless your premises are large enough for normal in-ground pools of adequate length. Just some advice, to make life more enjoyable, meaningful...Wish the whole family and friends safety and great well-being, thats all...    :-))

  2. Either buy a pump with a cartridge filter or get a pump that utilizes a salt system. Sand filters on above ground pools in particular, are a major pain in the backside. I have owned both cartridge and sand and even had them running together in combination. Once you get a bunch of algae in the sand filter/pump it is almost impossible to backwash it out. The sand traps the algae within itself pretty effectively. If you switch to a salt system, which I am strongly considering (I have a cartridge now, which is doing just fine), You never have to add salt again unless you lose water due to spillage (salt cannot evaporate with water). This saves you big time in chemicals (chlorine). Ditch the sand filter immediately!!!! Hope this helped.

  3. it may actually have something to do with the overall hygiene of you or your family members and/or guests.  I would try a bath in your regular facilities first before swimming and see if that corrects it.

  4. It's NOT in the "Nature" of Pools- to stay clean! When you think about how Vulnerably EXPOSED to all the Elements they are- that can get them Dirty, it's little WONDER they look like a Swamp half the time!!! I got RID of my Pool- YEARS ago... Too much Hassle; too much Expense; and there was ALWAYS some little Kid in the Neighborhood that I was afraid was going to end up at the Bottom of it (& clog up the Filter)! It just WASN'T worth the Grief...  :(
