I have a red eared slider> Biggsie is about three inches big and he has a swollen eye! I dunno! It looks like there is something stuck in it but it could be puss? I started giving them special turtle worms and lettuce and some eggshells. I also bought them a calcuim block specialy for turtles. It has been a week since I saw his eye and I have been buying new stuff for him everyday! I have two other turtles and they are fine!!!

I really don't know what to do! Biggsie is one of my best freinds!!!

  1. turtles can get abscesses on their eyes you need to take biggsie to a vet for some antibiotic eye ointment, the best source of calcium for your turtle is a cuttle fish bone like the ones you feed to birds, turtles seem to like these better than the turtle blocks, he may have just got his eye scratched and it is now infected but it does need treatment

  2. They sell turtle eye drops at most pet stores go get some and put them in his eyes several times a day. Also if all your turtles are in the same tank i would suggest separating them b/c if its an infection they could get it to!

If it doesnt get better within the about a week after starting the eye drops, find a vet near you that sees small animals/reptiles!

  3. Sounds like a bacterial eye infection. This is usually caused by poor filtration (I'm not saying that your tank has poor filtration but it could be a possibility to look into). If your turtles are in the same tank then you should remove Biggsie and put him in a different tank. With sick turtles you are supposed to raise the water temperature a little (5 degrees should be fine) and leave the water fairly shallow because sick turtles can drown much easier then healthy ones. Also to cure this you will need an antibiotic ointment that you will need to get from a vet. The stuff that you said might be puss is discharge that happens as a result of the bacterial infection. Keep in mind that these types of infections are common amongst red eared slider so you don't have much to worry about as long as you get him the medical attention he needs. I hope I helped and that Biggsie will feel better shortly!
