Question:

My potatos have withered and died is this blight?

up to a week ago they were doing fine.a reasonable crop.within 4 days they have withered and leaves blackened [1] is this blight +[2]are they safe to eat

  1. As long as you remove all the plant above soil, the tubers/potatoes should be fine. Do a test dig to be sure.

    Ours were also looking like attacked by blight, so I removed all leaves and stalks and the potatoes were fine.

    you can leave the potatoes in the soil for a some time and dig up as you need, I read somewhere that blight attacked potatoes don't store well, so you may have to eat as many as you can.

    But make sure to BURN all the leaves and stalks removed so as to not spread the spores, do not compost!

  2. When did you plant them? Mine tops have dies back too but are ready to dig up. It takes about 12 weeks from planting to gigging up for early crops. The actually potatoes should be fine.
