My potty-trained 2 year old has relapsed?

Over the 4th of July we decided to potty train my 2 1/2 year old. She did great and picked it up easily. She was even going through the night consistently without accidents. Last weekend we baby-sat a little girl who is not potty trained, and ever since then she has totally relapsed. She will still go if we remind her, but rarely on her own, and she has an accident every night now. Last night she was right by her toilet, but just peed next to it right in front of my husband. Anybody know how to handle this? I am losing my mind!

  1. Start over. However you trained her before (toys,candy...) you're going to have to suck it up and do it all over again! Sorry!

  2. thats not uncomen. shes 2 1/2 so shes still little. maybe she isnt ready. just put her back in diapers then see if she becomes ready. i wasnt potty trained till i was like 4 1/2. i was still in diapers. and after that i wore pull-ups for like a year and a half. every kid is diffrent dont freak out.

  3. Simple: retrain her. She's not potty trained--far from it. Never was. It's been less than two months--she will and should relapse. It's part of learning--the novelty's worn off and she saw the other child getting attention for using a diaper. She needs to be put on the potty every half hour or hour just like when you first started and get her to retrain. Do NOT put her back in diapers. She won't be fully potty trained until she's gone 5 or 6 mos without an accident. Good luck!
