I have a pregnant guppy, and she was very large and she had a really big red tail, and I when I thought she was going to have the babies I put her in a separate tank. It's been cycling for about a month but the water was still a little cloudy so I was hesitant about putting her in there. I was gone for a day and when I came home I noticed that her tail is almost gone, and she's breathing pretty hard. She's eating and she swims around, but sometimes she just hangs out by the heater. I don't know what I should do. Should I put a male fish in there with her, because she is in there by herself. I'm afraid she is going to die because she doesn't look great. Will her tail fin grow back? I don't know what to do but I really want her to live.

  1. My guppy dies\d of pregnancy. I'm sorry.

  2. DO NOT, whatever you do put a male in with her. he will harass her  to death. since you say she is pregnant she sounds like she is going to give birth very soon. try putting her back in the regular but with a divider between her and the other fish.

  3. You need to keep her seperated from the other fish. Check your ammonia, nitrate, and ph levels in the tank she`s in.  High ammonia levels can cause fish to become ill. I would get a breeding net and put her in there and try using Maracyn to help  with the fin rot. Be careful not to stress her out, as she might have stillborn fry.

  4. If you keep her in there you must do a large water change (50%) immediately...it sounds to me like she is suffering from poor water and will die if she stays in that water. During cycling ammonia and nitrite levels build up and then fall to 0 . when they have fallen to 0 and you have nitrates show up you are cycled. It sounds to me like you still have ammonia and /or nitrites and she should be put back in the other cycled tank...or at very least get those water changes done every day at least 30-50% a day.....good luck.

  5. id put her back in her original tank and put the others in the new one, not good for prego fish.

  6. I put my pregnant guppy in a separate tank, few days later, it starts to lose color, its tail fins are getting poorer and poorer and then her tail has dropped off like a breast cancer patient lost her hairs. Then it died with 20 fry inside her belly. Then my male guppy died too.

This is due to stress caused by pregnancy. Like fish store employees have told me, female guppy suffer during pregnancy, her belly blow up in order for frys to come out of her belly.

I once have asked this question in yahoo, people said guppies don't die from pregnancy, all their guppies well fine after releasing their fry.

  7. When a pregnant fish is about to have it's babies it goes near the heater. so if i were you put her in a separate tank to have them. DO NOT PUT A MALE GUPPY IN THERE!!!!!!!! all he would do is chase her around the tank and bother her! After she has the babies she will grow some of her fins back.

*make sure you feed her alot so when she does have the babies she will not eat them!*

    Good Luck!
