okay, so i just got surgery on my wrist yesterday (broke my scaphoid bone and had to get a s***w put into it so it didnt die, shatter, and give me arthritis.). they gave me Norco(5mg Hydrocodone/325 acetaminophen) im a farely big kid. 5'9 215 i dont know if this matters.

so the bottle says take 1-2 6-8 hours apart. so i of course take 2

and this was a few hours ago.

this didnt help much and im wondering if there is any possiblilty that i can get a stronger painkiller prescribed?

it still feels like its getting hit with a hammer over and over..

if there is a possibility of getting a stronger painkiller prescribed what would it possibly be?

thank you much.

  1. The pain medication prescribed for you is one of the strongest oral medication available (it is generic vicodin).  You need to elevate the arm to help with the throbbing, and put an ice pack on it.  The most you can take of that medication is 12 tablets in a 24 hour period (two tablets every four hours - but only used as prescribed ) because anymore of the acetaminophen (Tylenol) portion of it will damage your liver.  If the ice and elevation (prop on pillows higher than the heart) don't work, call your surgeon's office and the answering service will get in touch with the surgeon.  Are your fingers warm and mobile?  Is there numbness/tingling?  When you pinch the nailbed, does the pink color come back immediately?  If the answer to any of these questions is no, you need to contact the surgeon's office; these are neurovascular changes, and could indicate the cast may be too tight.

Usually the pain improves in a day or two.

    Hope you feel better soon!

  2. Norco is different from Vicodin.  Vicodin contains 5 milligrams of narcotic (hydrocodone) and 500 milligrams of Tylenol.  Norco contains 10 milligrams of narcotic (hydrocodone) and 325 milligrams of Tylenol. The generic for Norco is Hydrocodone 10/325. If you need a stronger pain-killer, or more than ten pills, ask for Percocet or OxyContin or Fentanyl

  3. Norco and Vicodin are exactly the same drug.  The generic for this is Hydrocodone.  You can get Norco in a higher dosage, ie 10/650, but since your asking about a stronger medication--Oxycodone or Oxycontin are stronger.

By the way, Vicoding or Norco is not the strongest pain medication as has been said above.  Talk to your M.D. and see if he can prescribe something a bit stronger as the Norco isn't managing the pain that you are having.
