My primary skill is bowling – Chris Woakes – Cricket News Update
Warwickshire all-rounder, Chris Woakes, who has been recalled into the national side for the NatWest series against South Africa, has said that his main job is to contribute with the ball, adding that he has working hard to improve his bowling skills.
The 23-year-old lanky all-rounder, whose last appearance in English colours before the NatWest series had come in August last year, earned the national recall on the basis of impressive county season, in which he averages above 87 with the bat and has also
claimed 25 wickets at an average 23.32.
"I still think my primary skill is bowling and I have areas to improve there, but if I keep my batting going in the direction it is at the moment then that's good," said the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862-born medium-pace bowler.
Woakes made his international debut during http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, in January last year and has to date played five ODIs and three T20 Internationals for the Poms. He may not have had a chance to build on a startling county season, had ECB selectors
not rested pace-bowling all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SCJ-Broad-c2465 for the series.
But having been named in Alastair Cook’s starting XI for the series opener on Friday, the gangling all-rounder is eager to grasp the opportunity with both hands.
"I've developed my batting a lot in the last 18 months. If I can improve my bowling the way I want to and become an international bowler, that will be my way in," he added further.
Replying to query regarding the ongoing rift between the ECB and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806, Woakes said that the KP saga has not had any negative impact on the dressing room.
“...this is a fantastic dressing room to come into,” said the right-arm medium-pacer. “Everyone welcomes each other in. It's a good place to be and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else but an England dressing room," he added further.
The opening ODI of the five-match NatWest series, was rained out, at Cardiff last week. The second one-dayer between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 and England will be played at Southampton, on Tuesday, August 28, 2012. The ODI series will be followed by three T20 Internationals.
