My priority is first-class cricket not IPL, says Harmeet Singh – Cricket News Update
Having performed exceptionally well in the recently concluded http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Harmeet-Singh-c1533, the India Under-19’s left-arm spinner, has set his sights on first-class cricket, which he thinks is more important
than the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The cricketer from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820, who turns 20 next week, picked up six wickets in four matches with an exceptional economy rate of 3.02 runs per over in the mega event. Considering the fact that the Australian tracks are more suitable to
fast bowling, this is a brilliant performance by the left-arm spinner.
Harmeet caught the attention of many cricket analysts, including http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
However, the young spinner understands that he will have to prove his mettle in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kumar-Shri-Ranjitsinhji-c71870 Trophy, which is the premier first-class tournament in India. Harmeet knows that he is expected to deliver the goods at the senior level but said
that he will have to keep working extremely hard and cannot afford to be complacent.
The left-arm spinner mentioned that his priority is four-day cricket as opposed to the IPL, which can hamper a spinner’s growth.
"Now starts the real challenge. The expectations from us would be much higher. We all know what we have to do. I have to get back to cricket, focus hard. We are all looking forward to the coming season now. The next step for me is
Ranji Trophy, not the IPL," said Harmeet.
The Mumbai-born player has so far played three first-class matches, picking up 17 wickets.
The budding cricketer revealed that the team had a very productive meeting with the former Indian captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Dravid-c2229, before leaving for the World Cup. According to Harmeet, the legendary batsman advised him to focus on turning
the ball in Australia, because bowling flat on the Aussie tracks can lead to a spinner’s downfall.
He added, "Dravid had told us before leaving that it would make sense to impart revolutions on the ball, try and spin it, in Australia. So I tried to do that by bowling slower through the air, which helped me get spin and bounce."
