Only thing is, Commercial DVD only play 480p unless you use HDMI. There is no VGA to HDMI adapter, so can I go from VGA to Component to HDMI and still get a 1080i, or even just 720p? Can anybody help???

  1. DVDs only play at 480 no matter what kind of connection you use. The resolution of a DVD is 640x480. Period. There are DVD players that upscale to higher resolutions but that is not the same as high definition. The only player that can actually play a movie in hi-def is a Blu-ray (or HD-DVD) player. Good players will upscale to 1080p. Both HDMI and component support 1080p. But it sounds like your equipment will only do 1080i or 720p. BTW broadcast TV can be 1080 p or i, or 720p but the vast majority of broadcast is in 720p even if the station is putting out a 1080 signal. In order of resolution and preference video can be HDMI, component, S-video, and composite. HDMI is the only digital interface for video and is therefor preferred. Component video is analog but also supports 1080p though only the very newest top of the line equipment supports 1080p through component.

  2. If you have an upconverting DVD player it will probably only output 1080i over HDMI. There are a few DVD players that will output a scaled HD image over component ... but you would have to find one. Otherwise you are probably stuck with 480p over component.  You can't go from component (at DVD player end) to HDMI since one the former is analog and the latter digital.  You can connect component to the VGA input on the projector via an adapter. The projector may have the ability to scale the 480p signal to 720p or 1080i ... if so you can use that. Otherwise you are out of luck and stuck with 480p.  On a screen about 80" or so that shouldn't look bad at all.

  3. It is compatible, not actually 1080i, sorry. This means that in theory you could have inputs up 1080i, but with out an hdmi socket, this is impossible. This would lead me to believe that the projector is not capable of displaying images at such a high resolution, and if it were to receive images of the sort it would simply downscale them.

    Hope that helped
