  1. High prolactin levels can be caused as a side effect of medications, by the thyroid or by a pituitary tumor. Depending on the cause, that will determine the course of treatment.

If it is a pituitary tumor, there are two different medications that can be taken (either one) to reduce the levels that will reduce the levels as well as reduce the size of the tumor. It is usually taken for the rest of your life.

Thyroid issues are usually perpetual as well. If it is a medication side effect - you can opt to change the med or continue at your discretion.

Having studied this for years, I do not know of any alternative medication that will work on this save perhaps a if you are working with a good acupuncturist. That has helped me a lot. Please do you own research.

  2. It would depend on what is causing the high prolactin levels.  Hormone imbalances such as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome can cause this to occur.  However, when a hormone imbalance occurs it can be managed but not cured.

If there is a tumor on the pituitary gland (a gland at the base of the brain) that can be removed and it should take care of the problem.

I would recommend checking with an endocrinologist (a doctor that diagnoses and treats diseases and disorders that relate to the hormones and organs like the pituitary gland) if you haven't already to see what options are available for the Medicine side.

You may also be able to get some help from the alternative side depending on what the doctor says.  Alternative meaning things like supplements specifically for that part of the body.
