  1. If the controller blinks, then it has disconnected from the PS3.  In other words, the PS3 doesn't recognize the controller any more.

In order for the PS3 to recognize the controller again, plug the controller into the PS3, then push the PS button.  Your controller should now be synced back up with your PS3, and you can unplug it.  You should now be able to turn your PS3 on and off with the controller.

The lights always blink when you push the PS button, but should then go to the number the controller is.  If they only blink, it is cause the controller can't find the PS3, and that's why the PS3 doesn't come on and the controller doesn't go to the number it is.  It is bluetooth and happens sometimes.  Nothing wrong with the controller or PS3, just something bluetooth ended up interfering with it, or the controller hadn't been put on to charge in a while.

It happens to me every once in a while cause I have many things that are bluetooth, and a few controllers.  It can happen if you have more than one controller and switch the controllers to different numbers, the PS3 sometimes loses track of which controller is which.

  2. you are suppose to hold the button down or if its wireless the bateries are low or dead

  3. Since noone else brought it up, your ps3 also will not turn on via controller the first time the switch is flipped on (in the back).  You have to turn it on from the front.  After that initial time, you can turn it on and off via the controller (until you turn the system off with the switch again).

  4. The power is probably low. Plug it in.

  5. This usually happens when your PS3 is unplugged. Your controller has been disconnected or unsynced with your ps3, just turn it on with the main power button and hit the ps button on your controller. it should re-sync and it should turn it on again.
