My psp volume buttons won't work. Are there alternatives/solutions?

My volume button won't increase the volume. It just stays all the way to nothing.

Should I open it up?

If I get one of those PSP earphones/headphones with the remote; do you think the volume will work?

... and I didn't buy the Warranty.....

Yeah the remote control will probably work aslong as its a hardware fault [which it probably is].
