My puppies are dragging their butts before they p**p?

We have 5 week old puppies that just started pooping and eating without their mother, and I noticed before they p**p they tend to drag their little behinds. Could this be them trying to stimulate the execretion like their mother had been doing for all this time? Or for sure is it worms? Anyone heard of this before?

  1. Call the vet.

My dog use to drag his butt, and he had worms.

It could be just a puppy thing or it could be serious.

Whatever you do get the vets attention.

In any medical problem get the vets attention.

  2. its gross but it might shed some light on your situation.  hope this helps.

  3. Totally normal. Lol.

  4. They may have worms.

Their anal sacks may be full (though I doubt it, they are only 5 weeks).

They don't know how to clean back their yet, it may be dirty.

Take them to the vet and ask the vet, they will be able to tell for sure.

  5. i had a dog who did the same thing.I went to a doctor and he told me that is a normal thing for a puppy.Mine stoped doying that after he grew up,but,to be sure, you should go for a routine control with your puppies :).good luck

  6. About the worms - have you wormed them?  If you have, this could probably eliminate (no pun intended) that theory.  Anal glands impacted could be a problem, but at that age, and all of them?  Doubt it.  Imitating mum's stimulation?  Never had this in any of my litters.  Obviously there is some irritation going on and you need to sort this out so if all fails, it needs imput from your vet I'm afraid.  Oh and are their f***s normal?  If they are unduly loose, that might be making them sore.  Strange it's all of them .....

  7. haha my neighb's dog does that

  8. Probably worms.  Have you deworm the puppies yet.

  9. All you have to do is collect p**p samples from 3 different pups, and and take it to the vet for a stool check.  If they have worms, your vet will prescribe the correct meds for type of worms they have.  Most pups do have round worm, so that would be my guess.  Start scooping!

  10. You need to have the vet check them out. It could be worms, or it could be impacted anal glands that need to be expressed, or sure, it could be them self-stimulating to mimic their mom -- but I've never heard of that before. Apparently, ALL puppies have worms, so it's probably that.
