My puppy ate a couple of grapes...........?

Yesterday my mum gave my 6 week old puppy 2 grapes, and I know they can poison her and stuff.

She's been like coughing and tries to vomit and she's been doing horrid farts. She still runs around and stuff, it has been over 12 hours since she ate them. But I was wondering if it will harm her anyway?

And what should I do with her? She hasn't been eating much, but drinks a lot of water.

????????

  1. well, i don't know but my dog is fine with grapes,

  2. Didn't know grapes could be poisons.

Apparently they should be fine unless they eat large quantities.

I'm sure your dog will be just fine, just keep an eye on her and make sure she doesn't eat anymore.

  3. Um, yes, grapes are toxic to dogs.  Large quantities of grapes will, in fact, cause kidney failure in dogs.  Two grapes is probably not an issue, though since she is 6 weeks old that's what I'd be concerned out.  Since it was more than a day ago, I would imagine she's probably fine from the grapes, but I do not know how long it takes for kidney failure to start.  Your vet would know.

The hacking cough I might worry about though, since she could have Bordetella or something else.  I'd go ahead and give your vet a call about that (oh, and puppies seem to always have horrid farts - it's frankly amazing the amount of stink one tiny bum can unleash upon an unsuspecting household).

In the future, if you are concerned about something your pup ate, call the vet.  They'll ask what she ate, how much, and how much the dog weighs (toxic dose is measured as amount of Toxic Thing per kg or per pound of the dog's weight).  And don't forget, calling your vet is free!  It really doesn't hurt to ask them.

  4. Dont worry grapes cant posion dogs i give my dog grapes all the time. You should go to the vet just in case. Cuz my dog had diabetes and she didnt eat a lot but she drank a lot of water.

  5. grapes won't poison a dog...i am shocked she was able to eat them at 6 weeks though.  More of a choking hazard then anything else.

  6. TAKE IT TO THE VET bring money it's alot of money  she might vomit it  the vets will probley have surgery thourgh her mouth or from the out side...

  7. Your puppy will be fine, I have a puppy too & he does the smae thig with the almost vomiting. That's natural.

~ Have fun with your puppy, =D

  8. It sounds like she's going to be okay. But I would take her to the vet to make sure! Best to be safe then sorry :)

  9. She should be ok, if your really worried call the vet and ask.

  10. it's good that your puppy is drinking a lot of water. that way, she can flush out the fluids when she's peeing. also when she goes poopie, she'll take out the bacteria and stuff. my advice, best to go take her to the vet as well. best of luck.

  11. im sure she's fine my dogs eat everything (some things way worse than grapes) so i wouldn't worry:)

  12. The puppy will be okay. My puppy is only4 months old and hes always eating stuff before I can catch him. Grapes should be fine.

  13. Try giving her some of her favorite puppy treats.  If she eats that, then she's not that bad off.  A dog off her food is a bad sign - if she won't eat a treat then high-tail it to the vet ASAP.  Most of the time a dog needs to ingest more than a handful of grapes to be harmful, but she's such a young thing that two may be enough to hurt her.

  14. I don't think its a problem, but if she still keeps doing that u should definitely take her to a vet

  15. She should be fine, grapes are not as harmful as chocolate. However, she is young, so I see why you are concerned. I believe the best thing to do if you are worried is call the local veterinarian. Hope she is OK!

  16. just give her plenty of water to flush them out, and no they are not toxic or poisonous just rather hard to digest i suggest you chop them up when she is a bit older.

  17. omg your puppy is dead how could you do that!!!!!!!

grapes can kill dogs rip whatever your dog is and i hop he doesnt die :((

  18. grapes will to poison a dog but not two only like 10 or more will so shes ok just dont give her anymore and let her body take its course if she starts vomiting or having bad diarrhea take her to the vet and just get it checked out

  19. I don't think two grapes is going to do a puppy any harm at all. they might have seeds but puppies chew up sticks all the time so I don't think that would be a problem. Also dog farts are always horrible especially if they eat food they are not used to.

  20. Take her to the vet immeditaly. I've read about a dog that died because she ate a couple raisins....and raisins are made from grapes.

  21. Take her too a vet, ya know make sure.

  22. Take her to the VET OMG How dumb of your mom! Raisins are worse but I would take her to the vet!

  23. take her to the vets if she continues like that :)

  24. Nope

  25. My dog eats grapes all the time. What do you mean they can poison her?

Well if my dogs have always eatin grapes and your puppy only had 2 I must say that your pup is fine.

  26. take two fingers and lift up some of her skin. if it falls down fast then keep checking in occasionally. if it falls down slowly or not at all, rush her to the vet. she's either dehydrated because it was too big or something has happened. Our dog swallowed a whole bone and she became dehydrated and that was what she was doing as well.

  27. Grapes are not safe for dogs.  I really wouldn't worry about 2 grapes, but avoid feeding them to her again.  There are actually quite a few different types of food that are dangerous to dogs.  Onions, Chocolate, Tomatoes, Nuts, Grapes, and many more.

  28. Grapes eaten in large amounts can be dangerous to dogs but not 2 grapes. Your puppy will be fine.

  29. At the very least, call the vet, ASAP. Depending on the size of your dog, she may be ok, but call just to make sure.

I'm usually a fan of practical choices, but in this case, I'd go with caution!!!

At the end of this article are some other foods that dogs shouldn't eat- chocolate, onions/garlic, and macadamia nuts.
