My puppy does this... should I worry?

I have a 10 week old Pure Yorkshire Terrier puppy who I got 1 day ago... she sounds like she has a cross between an cough and the need to vomit; Other than that she acts totally normal; she eats and drinks fine... is this something to worry about?? I have heard that the smaller breeds can get really sick really quickly if they are sick, so I want to catch anything before it gets too bad...

My cat had a smiler problem. She was kinda coughing, or trying to vomit. I took her to the vet, and it turned out she had an upper respiratory infection. My vet prescribed medication for her, and it passed... That might be your case? Maybe take her to the vet to be safe!

Well, if she just came home you want her to see your vet and get her first check-up and puppy shots anyways.  I would definitely ask about it when you go in.

Have you walked her on a leash yet?  If she walks on a leash and is pulling hard, she can choke herself and she'll have that kind of cough.  I wouldn't really think of a Yorkie as a pulling breed normally though, so I'd probably be far more likely to take her in sooner and have the vet listen to her breathing and everything.

I'd suspect a trachea problem. Vet needed now. Ten weeks is kinda young for yorkie pups to be rehomed.

Sounds like she has kennel cough which is a virus and she needs antibiotics.

You should take her to the vet, it might be more serious then you know. Also, call the people you bought her from if it is something bad like something contagious otherwise stay calm and make sure to watch her really closely.

With a puppy that young, a swift trip to the vet is in order.  Since she hasn't had all of her vaccinations, it could easily be kennel cough or something much more serious -- go ahead and make an appointment for as soon as possible.

She needs a checkup, she might have kenel cough. It is a contageous cough that dogs get. There is a medecine for it.
