  1. I work at a day care for dogs and the dogs there eat p**p all the time, it could be nothing at all or it could be an indication of some health problems, my number one question is why is she by p**p at night?

if she is in a backyard or large area where there is p**p around i would definitely recommend that you either crate her or pick the p**p up... if she is in a crate and goes because of puppy accidents then i think you should take her out for a bathroom break during the night. you should probably do this anyway while shes being housebroken, but its probably an indication that she needs to go at night and the problem can be solved by letting her do her business away from her crate.

i would also take her to the vet to make sure that she has no health problems. some of the dogs i work with do some weird things (eat p**p, eat dog hair, l**k the floor) because they have genetic health problems, and some eat p**p because they are not getting enough nutrition and they smell it in the waste and eat it. but some dogs do it even if there is no problem.... so my advice would be to take her to the vet and tell them the problem to make sure that she has no serious health issues. and also to make sure that she is in a very clean place all the time at night

Some puppies will eat poopie just to hide the evidence from you. A puppy is little and silly, but he will understand in a short time that you get angry when p**p is on the floor. So, to stop your anger, the puppy will eat the p**p to avoid the yelling.

You might be surprised by this, but some puppies eat p**p because they think it tastes good. This won't make sense to a lot of people, but remember, you're not a dog. When you see a puppy eating p**p, you have to remember that you don't have the taste buds of a pooch.

Puppy p**p, like all p**p, is warm and moist. It's a lot like what puppies eat when they are just born, either from momma dog or from you. Some puppies never break the habit.

There is another reason that dogs will eat p**p, which is also known as coprophagia (that's the medical term). Puppies will sometimes eat poopie turds because they are "obeying" older, dominant dogs who eat p**p.

That's right, your puppy might be eating p**p because he's learned it watching older dogs. So, you might have mult-generational p**p eating issues! It's a crazy world, I know.

This kind of behavior is obviously much more likely to happen in households where there are several dogs. The reason is that there is a domination factor and submission factor. The puppy will simply follow the pack leader.

By the way, some puppies will eat other types of p**p, like cat p**p. Puppies are very curious and will eat just about anything, like kids. You have to watch them closely or they might start eating cat turds left and right.

I suspect that you want to eliminate this p**p eating behavior. If that's true, there are two things you can do. Give your puppy pills that make p**p taste really, really bad. When they eat it,

Second, you can train your puppy.

  2. Every dog I've ever had eats cat p**p that's not unusual just keep the cat litter box away from the dog. Dog's eating their own p**p is a problem however. Most often it is a sign that you are feeding your dog low quality dog food and she doesn't get enough nutrients out of it so she eats it again. If that is the case than you need to switch to a very good brand of dog food, I would recommend Iams as a cheap brand and Royal Canin as the best brand.

  3. My puppy use to do this. Its apparently normal, where puppies dont know much, they investigate everything by their mouth! She'll stop soon, dont worry!

  5. Dogs like the way cat p**p taste, its got more meaty stuff in it that they like. Sometimes dogs eat there p**p because they are afraid of getting into trouble, maybe you or someone else hit her when she pooped in the house...and now she is trying to get rid of the evidence.

Put the cat box in a place that Meaka isnt allowed to go, like the laundry room, or bathroom.

Tell her no in a very angry low voice every time she tries to eat her p**p, and when she poops and walks away from it, give her a treat.

    Good Luck

  6. Dogs will eat anything. Try not to let them eat p**p.

  7. I have the exact same problem as you do. I got these tips from the trainer at my puppy classes.

When you catch her in the act, bang a bottle of stones on the floor and pick up the p**p.

You may also need to teach her the leave command if she doesn't already know it.

  8. Most of the time this is behavioral, they like it!  If you are feeding her a well balanced quality food it is probably behavioral.

There is medication you can get from your vet to put on her food to deter this problem. One remedy we also recommend at my work is sprinkling Adolph's meat tenderizer on her food once a day for about 5-7 days. This usually does the trick. Most of the time it is behavioral, they just like it.

  9. Hello, If u see pup doing toilet or ur cat does, there is p**p u will need to clean it up straight away before ur pup eats it. Feed the pup well balanced the food which she likes to eat the best

  10. my dog attemps to eat her p**p then i firmly tell her no

  11. it's not that uncommon for a dog to eat it's own p**p or other animals'.

my dog is fond of horse p**p, i've never seen him eat his own,

but i don't know if he has,

if you don't like her breath, get those dog mints for her.

  12. I recently had this conversation with my Vet.

Accent, Excel, For-bid and other coprophagia (Technical term for p**p eating) are hard on the dog's system and rarely work. There is no reason why they do it - It doesn't mean the dog is hungry or has a vitamin deficiency - Some dogs do it, some don't.

When I had this problem with my youngest Aussie, my Vet said that making the p**p "Undesirable" (Like it's not already, right?!) is the best way to teach a dog not to eat it.

First you need to find something the dog doesn't like - Get either Bitter Apple spray or tabasco and put some on your finger and let the dog l**k it. If the dog doesn't like it, then it's good for you to use.

Walk around your yard and spray / spritz all the poops with it (Either bitter apple or tabasco) and let the dog have at it. When the dog keeps trying to eat it and keeps getting the bad taste in it's mouth, it will associate p**p with that taste and think *all* of it tastes that way. In about a weeks time, the dog will give up, you just have to be diligent about making sure you've covered all the poops.

As for Cat p**p - All dogs love it.  Cats don't fully digest their food, so there are lots of good leftovers in their p**p.  Keep the litterbox in a place where the puppy can't get to it.

  13. Add two to four tablespoons of canned pumpkin to the food bowl each day. Pumpkin apparently tastes good in food, but repugnant when expelled in excrement.

Add a spoon (teaspoon or tablespoon depending on the dog's size) of canned pineapple, pineapple juice or spinach to the dog's food.
