Question:

My purse was stolen, and returned?

At work I put the purse in the drawer, I work at a Kiosk. Normally I would lock it but I forgot and went to the bathroom, when I get back the purse is gone.

A couple days later someone returns the stuff that was in my purse (cell phone, wallet including debit card, a check, car keys, drivers license, etc) in a plastic bag saying they worked at a garbage place. So all they took was the purse itself, mp3 player, and like 4$ in cash.

What are the chances they knew the person who stole it? That they made copies of the keys and would break in the house? Any other advice?

  1. As a precaution, I would change the locks but anyone returning property now knows that you know who they are if anything happens.  This sounds like a petty theft... someone wanted cash and happened to find the MP3 player too.

BTW something similar happened to me and they just wanted any valuables... basically cash.

  2. Contact Experian and TransUnion to put a block on your cards in case they made a copy and try to steal your identity.

Definitely change the locks to your house.

Contact the police - at least you will have a case report, even if they can't track the thief.

  3. Pretty high.  CHANGE THE LOCKS!
