i have been training harder than usual for the upcoming cross country season. i have never had a promblem until today. i noteced my quads are hurting a little bit. its not like "i just want to sit in a hot tub all day because it hurts so bad and can barley walk" pain, but i can tell that they are sore. does anybody know any thing i can do to make the pain not get worse? i have practice everyday, and i have a scrimmage this week, and i dont want to let my team down. is there anyway to make the pain go away or something i can do to make the pain not get any worse? and its really strange, because i have never had pain there before. i am an avid runner, and have very little nagging injuries. is there anything i can do? thanks so much! i really apprciate all your answers!

  1. Try Bengay or some creame like that. If you dont knwo what it is, ask your pharmiscist or any local drug store (rite aid, CVS, etc). Put it on about 30 - 15 min. before you run and you should be fine. But you should also rest when not running instead of training. Also icing it never hurt either

  2. Well if you dont run alot or havent run in a while then you will most likely get a little sore. Just put some Bengey or some Hot/Cold creame.

  3. Keep moving, walk for about 20 minutes.  Get an ice pack and wrap a towel around it and gently rub the ice pack from the top to bottom of quads, continuously.  Do this for about 10-15 minutes 3X/day, take advil if needed.  Doing this will help reduce inflammation and soreness.

Massage your quads with a foam roller or with the palms of your hand.

Ice baths are great for sore muscles:  run a shallow bath with room tempurature water  (wear a sweater and bring a book to read, a bucket of ice).  Sit in the tub, add some cold water till your legs are covered.  Then add the ice, sit for at long as you can stand it 10-15 minutes.  Read your book to keep your mind off the cold.  Your legs will feel refreshed and will help aid restoration in your muscles.  Tiger balm is one of the better creams for sore muscles but all this really does is the effect of the menthol, or eucalyptus gives a sensation of relief but will not actually get rid of the pain.
