Question:

My rabbit is rearranging the furniture in his cage?

Ever since my rabbit has seen our guinea pig, he has been trying to flip his litterbox over to make a hiding place(like the guinea pig has, which is funny because the guinea pig idolizes him). After we realized what was going on, we gave him his own little hiding place/hut.

But now, in the middle of the night, he is moving his food bowl, litter box, hiding place, and water bowl around. I don't put it back(except the litterbox, because of space issues), and when we clean the cage, we put everything back where he put it. then he moves it around again!

Mostly, though, he's been trying to flip over or move the litter box. Is there anything I can do to make him stop other than saying, "NO, Snowball!"?

Also, he's recently been making these squealing sounds, kind of like when you open a door. Is this a problem?

  1. moving stuff around is not a big deal, but i understand it is INCONVENIENT if the the litterbox gets shoved around.  you can either get clip on litterboxes, or drill two small holes near the top (norizontal, about an inch apart) and loop a ziptie thru and tie it onto the cage.

i am also concerned about the squealing.  i would check wih a vet.

  2. There is not really a problem with your rabbits behavior. Good Job getting him a hut/hiding place. Try and give her new toys, cat toys work great for rabbits. Then maybe he will give up with the litter box and play with the toys. Certainly do not yell at your rabbit, virtually, he doesn't know what he is doing wrong that upsets you. If there is anyway you can fasten the litter box to the cage, that would work.

Certainly take your rabbit to the vet soon to get that squealing noise checked out. That can be very serious.

    Good Luck with your rabbit.

  3. Two different things going on here.  Firstly rabbits are the interior decorators of the animal world. Some do it more than others but most do it to some extent.

I'm more concerned with a rabbit that is squealing.  Rabbits are not vocal animals and only do that when in pain or totaly freaked out.  My first suggestion is to have him checked out by a vet to make sure he isn't sick or hurt his back from the flailing around trying to get away from the GP.

Make sure he always has a hidey hole and when you open his cage to take him out, leave the door open for a minute and just talk to him before scooping him out.  Better yet, if the cage arrangement allows, let him come out on his own.  This will make him feel safer.

Hope you have had him neutered.  Even if he isn't around any female rabbits it does change their aggression levels.

  4. Rabbits like to move things around. Some rabbits just have it in them that they just want to move there stuff. You can try and put something heavy in his litter box to keep it from being moved if you want him to stop moving it. Other than that he has a mind of his own. Could it be possible that your giunea pig is biting your rabbit? He could be making the squealing noises because he is scared or just talking or maybe he is excited.

  5. All you do is watch where he puts things and secure them and he'll fell alot safer we had to do this with 5 out of 10 of our bunnies

  6. Are they in the same cage or room? If they are snowball might be intimidated by the GP. Maybe the GP is squealing? they are known for that. My rabbit is ALWAYS rearanging her furnature! I would seperate the two and things should go back to normal, but listen carefuly for the squealing!  Dont scold the rabbit for moving around its furniture it likes doing that!

  7. I AM NOT SURE I WOULD GO TO A VET TO DOUBLE CHECK AND JUST PUT A BLANET OVER THE CAGE SO THE CAN NOT SEE EACH OTHER OR BUY THEM  SOME BUNNY IGLOOS FOR BOTH OF THE TO HIDE IN THEY COME IN MANY SIZES AND COLORS I CAN GIVE U MORE INFO ON THE INGLO MY YAHOO MENSEGER ACOOUT USER NAME IS JUMPER.CASPER

    OK

  8. get him away from the guinea pig, and you NEVER decide where a rabbits stuff goes. he doesnt care about the space, and is trying to tell you he wants it over there. rabbits decide where they wanna c**p. call the vet about the squealing.
