i have a young 16week old dutch rabbit who escaped into the boys den 23days ago..... and in the straw she's made a little whole and when i try and pick her up she backs into a corner... because she's younger would it take longer for her to give birth or shorter and how many days is average pregnancy cause we go on holiday for 2 weeks when it has been 28days after she's mated. do you think the neighbour will be ok looking after her if she is pregnant?

  1. Rabbits don't reach sexual maturity until they are six months old, so there is no way your rabbit is pregnant.  Plus, she wouldn't be making a nest this early, it takes them around 27 days until they make their nest.  Good luck.

  2. It's possible for her to be pregnant...the time till she gives birth will still be the same though. Usually the gestation period is exactly 31 days, sometimes a few more or a few less but all of mine have been exactly on the due date so yeah, be expecting babies in a few days!

It's not really that different to look after them if they're pregnant, just make sure she has lots of food since she will eat more for a few days and then she will stop eating the day she has her babies.

Hopefully the babies will live =)

And for the people who say it's impossible for her to be pregnant until she's 6 months, well that's not always true! Sometimes they mature early. Bucks are supposed to take 6-7 months, but mine only took 4 months before he got my female pregnant!

  3. Pregnancy lasts just over a month for most rabbits. So if she is pregnant she will be due pretty soon. You rabbit should be fine in the care of your neighbours so long as they know the circumstances and give her food and fresh water daily as well as leaving her in peace.

Though to me she sounds a little on the young side at the time of conception. But rabbits are famous for their propagating!

  4. 16 weeks is very young however if she has made a little hole could be that she is pregnant.  My rabbit pulled out her fur a couple of days before giving birth and was really out of sorts - grumpy in fact.  It should be okay for your neighbour to look after the rabbit while you are away as the babies and mum don't like too much interference anyway.  It is too tempting to look at the babies and I know that my rabbit got stressed out by this.  Make sure that your rabbit gets plenty of hay, nuggets, and fresh water so that she can maintain her strength to feed the little ones.

Good luck - my rabbit has had 2 litters of 5 babies.  We lost  3 early on and then 2 at 3 weeks.

  5. she should have been using condoms, or been on the pill

  6. its normally a month after shes mated she will give birth. I think at the moment she is a bit too young to get pregnant but we will find out sooner or later. See if she is pulling her fur out and making a nest, if she is then put in loads of hay to help her annd make sure that the buck CAN NOT get in because he will kill the baby bunnies  :( Good Luck and i hope this helped!!!

  7. I breed Netherland Dwarfs, and it normally takes 4 weeks (28 days), you should put a nesting box in her cage, just in case. she should pulling fur from her dewlap.

  8. well it doesnt take to long id have your neigbor look after them just in case.

  9. probally.i would warn your neighbour about this before you go away. it takes about a month for the babys to be born after shes mated. i think she is pregnant because she made a little nest out of staw. my bunny did the same thing when she was pregnant.

  10. Yes probaly as rabbits get very defencive when pregnant and they make a nest. A rabbits pregnancy lasts a month (31 days) but they can give birth a early as the 28th day or as late as the 33rd day. So i would recommend telling the neighbour so they expect finding tiny rabbits in her cage.

    Hope i helped :D
