Question:

My radiator is cracked?

My car radiator has been leaking out coolant for about a month now. I decided to call my mechanic and he said that copper radiators should not crack, they can bend but should not crack. He said it was probably a valve that is old. I don't see any leaks on the radiator itself. Any help?

  1. he,s wrong on that! i saw them crack before. if you have a crack in it, sand it down good to the bare metal and put some jb weld on it, let it set up good and hard. it will hold. i have it on mine right now.

  2. first you have to see the leak, the parts store will have a leak test kit, it has dye in it so you can see it.

the valve he spoke of is the drain valve and they can develop a leak.

i have seen and had to replace radiators that were cracked in the side, the last one i did was on a 2000 lumina, the side is plastic lol, other than that it was in great shape.

another way to find the leak is to place a large piece of cardboard under the car, if the leak is from under neath

    i hope this will help

  3. You might have a hose leaking check that.

  4. first you say radiator is leaking then you say you dont see leak.. which is it.... have another shop have a look at it all you have to say is you have a leak somewhere ... could be a hose could be a water pump could be a radiator. could be you need to find a better  mechanic ... cause if he was a real one he would have check it out and found the problem... and i dont know or have never heard of a valve other than the one that drain the radiator or the ones in side the motor which wouldnt have anything to do with radiator ... go some where else say i have a leak can you find it would be smarter

  5. If you don't see any leaks on the radiator, why do you say that the radiator is leaking??????

  6. Then its not the radatior that is leaking, could be a hose or water pump.
